Frequently Asked Questions
Is therapy right for me?
Everyone can benefit from therapy! However, individuals need to be engaged/involved in treatment in order for it to be effective. If you are unsure if you are ready to engage, schedule a free consultation to discuss your questions and concerns.
I have had bad experiences with mental health care in the past, how will this be different?
Unfortunately, many people have had negative experiences navigating mental health care. The fit between therapist and client is a crucial component to care satisfaction. Melo Therapy is dedicated to making sure clients and therapists are a good match, whether that is with Melo or not. We provide referrals to outside providers when needed. Remember, you are never “stuck” with a provider. This is your care, and your opinion and comfort matter!
My therapist does not share my identities, how will they understand or be able to help me?
Many people seek therapists who share their identities. This can help folks feel more comfortable and understood at the beginning of treatment. While Melo cannot match all identities, it can match individuals with a therapist who practices with cultural humility, and provides an inclusive space to explore identities, their saliences, and their intersectionality, including how they intersect with your current needs and concerns. Melo therapy takes time to get to know each individual in an open, non-judgmental, and genuinely curious way.
How do I open up to a stranger?
Therapy requires individuals to be vulnerable and to discuss difficult topics. This is done by patiently building rapport and trust within the therapeutic relationship.
How long does treatment last?
There is no set limit on treatment length. Treatment is tailored to each client’s needs, and is terminated once goals have been met. Since each individual is unique, treatment length is different for everyone. The therapist and the client will check in regularly on progress and proceed with treatment accordingly.
How often will I have a therapy session?
Treatment is tailored to individual needs, but most clients are seen on a weekly basis. You and your therapist will discuss whether an increase or decrease in therapy is appropriate.
I need to reschedule my appointment, what do I do?
Life happens. If you need to reschedule, do not hesitate to reach out! To avoid a cancellation fee, please be sure to reschedule at least 24 hours prior to your appointment.
Do you offer in person appointments?
In order to provide more convenience and accessibility to our clients, Melo Therapy is only offering virtual appointments at this time.
What does “out-of-network provider” mean?
Out-of-network means that Melo Therapy is not contracted with and does not bill for insurance. Since we are private pay, we are not constrained by the limits of insurance policies, including session limits. This allows us to truly tailor treatment to meet your needs. Melo Therapy will provide clients with a ‘Superbill’ (documentation submitted to insurance for reimbursement) upon request.
